“My ceramics are elegantly handbuilt from slabs of clay and reflect my fascination with contrasts – texture with smoothness, sharp edges with sweeping curves, matt with shine. Surfaces on each piece are imprinted with pattern using linocuts which I design and cut myself.
Many of my pattern designs are historically referenced. One of my favourites was inspired by a visit to the Stained Glass Museum in Ely Cathedral – and having lived in and around Cambridge since I was two years old, I know how fortunate I am to be surrounded by so many fascinating museums and galleries, so much incredible architecture and design.
I am a member of Anglian Potters, the Craft Potters Association, and Cambridge Open Studios.” — RUTH
