"I am a mixed media artist living and working in Ely, Cambridgeshire. A self-confessed "Art-Tart", I have worked with too many media to mention over my 25 years of making, creating and painting.
Having explored different media I have come to a love of mixed media with an abstract intuitive approach. It quenches my need for variety and I do love to throw the rule book out and explore with freedom.
Because I have a strong faith in God, I use painting as time to worship using colour. Every Sunday I paint at my local church during the worship and service. This ‘Painter’s Praise’ is recorded live through Instagram and has been a source of much of my inspiration.
You don't have to believe what I believe, my simple hope is that the energy I experience, whether a lament or bursting with joy, that it is evident through its combined connection within my finished work.
Alongside live art, my practice includes contemporary landscape, mixed media painting. Living in East Cambridgeshire Fens, surrounded by the most beautiful skyscapes and open panorama, which simplicity hides a wealth of shapes, angles and skies that I seek to portray using the vibrant colour palette synonymous with my work.
It would be indecent to live beneath the shadows of the awesome building that is Ely Cathedral and fail to portray it. It’s become a building I have sought to represent in many different styles, from charcoal or ink sketches to fluorescent pink paintings and lino cut and print.
Inspired by this I have begun this year with a series of sketches entitled ‘Pink Cathedrals’ which I intend to explore more throughout 2022." — KRISTIN
