"I’m glad to say I joined the Watercolour Workshop as soon as I came to Ely. I enjoy being part of the group, the evening sessions are a very sociable affair and it is great fun seeing everyone’s work on display in the exhibitions.
At school I had to give up Art in favour of more ‘academic’ subjects and only returned to painting while living in Yorkshire when my children were very young. I decided it was time to do something for me and joined an evening class in watercolours for three years.
I have travelled widely and enjoy seeing the different styles and vibrant colours of foreign places. I tend to like simple pictures with exuberant colours and try to experiment with ways of producing these bold colours through the medium of watercolour. ‘Wet on wet’ is always interesting!
I work full time as a teacher in and around Ely, a challenging job which I really enjoy. I have had so much fun in the last few years teaching art to my students in school. I have watched students who are frightened of art lessons growing in confidence because we all appreciate their results.
It has been a privilege to be an Art Moderator for several years now. I have learnt a lot and really enjoyed seeing such high standards in schools around the country. It has been a great source of new ideas and inspiration for me.
My other hobbies are screen printing, horse riding in Thetford forest and learning to play the piano." — SARAH
