“I love all things whimsical and fun. I am drawn to the irrepressible joy and complexity of the natural world and feel restored whenever I am surrounded by nature. It gives me such peace and contentment, whether in a field, near woodland or by the sea. The more remote and rugged the landscape, the happier I am.
I studied textiles and fashion at Liverpool before volunteering, later working and exhibiting in art galleries. I always enjoyed sculpture during my time at university and now working with metal clay I love the endless possibilities that the medium gives me.
I work with bronze, silver and copper. I combine them with semi-precious stones and recently, found materials such as sea pottery and sea glass found on my many trips to the Scottish and North Yorkshire coast; not far from my Northern family.
I derived a technique enabling me to produce hand carved moulds from which I create pendants of birds of prey, garden birds, foxes and hares to name a few. Each piece is taken from an original drawing - it then goes through a process of being dried, sanded and fired with a blow torch or kiln fired, sanded, antiqued and finally polished.
I sign each piece with a little running hare. I show my work on an ongoing basis at galleries in Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire and Bedfordshire. I have a shop on Etsy where I sell a small selection of my work and can work to commission.
I use Instagram and Facebook to promote my work and give details of events that I attend throughout the year.” — SARAH
